By using the Scotland on Screen website, you are deemed to have accepted and agreed to the following terms of use.

Scotland on Screen is a collaborative project between Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS), Scottish Screen (SS) and National Library of Scotland (NLS).  All intellectual property rights in this website excluding the stills and moving image files, are owned jointly by LTS, SS and NLS.

All moving image files and accompanying stills on this site are either owned by National Library of Scotland or have been licensed by the copyright owners for use on this website.

Public Use - Conditions of Licence

You are free to:

  • Search the database;
  • View thumbnail images;
  • View the moving image files via the streamed flash player;
  • Screen films from the streamed flash player for educational purposes;
  • Use the questions and learning activities for educational purposes.

You may not:

Public Distribution: Under no circumstances may these resources; including the still images, moving images and sound files on this website be copied, distributed, published, broadcast or sold by any method whatsoever.  This includes but is not limited to uploading of any material to any website or file-sharing website (for example YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Bebo), email, DVD and all other forms of distribution.

Commercial Use: You may not sell or use these resources for any commercial purpose.

Misuse: Any misuse of the resources, including the moving image and still image files on this site is strictly prohibited.

Authenticated Users including Glow Users – Conditions of Licence

Glow is Scotland’s national intranet for education funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Learning and Teaching Scotland.  You may use the materials on Scotland on Screen for educational purposes only in the following ways:

DO’S

  • Search the database;
  • View thumbnail images;
  • View the moving image files via the streamed flash player;
  • Screen films from the streamed flash player for educational purposes;
  • Use the questions and learning activities for educational purposes;
  • Download the moving image and still files for educational use in your educational institution;
  • Screen and display downloaded files;
  • Incorporate downloaded files into multi-media presentations (e.g. PowerPoint), films or produce derivative works;
  • Upload materials to an intranet available only to your educational institution;
  • Put materials onto CD-ROM for use within your educational institution;
  • Upload derivative works incorporating the materials to Glow for sharing across your educational institution, local authority or nationally;
  • Participate in the Glow Groups associated with this website;
  • Produce resources and worksheets for use in your educational institution;
  • Share and upload resources and worksheets on Glow;
  • Share resources with other subscriber’s to this website and/or Glow.

Materials are deemed to include moving image and sound files, still image files, questions and learning activities.

Educational purposes are defined as the materials from this website being used in a non-commercial/not for profit context:

  • by schools, colleges, universities or providers of life-long learning to include voluntary organisations, community groups and local authorities;
  • at a venue for or as part of an educational project on behalf of your educational institution;
  • at home for the completion/research of school work/educational research purposes as directed by your educational institution;
  • within Glow and Glow learning environments.

DON’TS

No Public Distribution: Under no circumstances may subscribers to this website share or provide access to the still images, moving images and sound on this website to non-subscribers.  The still images and moving image and sound files available for download on this website must not be copied, distributed, published or broadcast outside your educational institution other than on the Glow network.  This includes all publicly accessible websites and file-sharing websites, (for example YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Bebo), email, DVD and all other forms of distribution.
