Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) is responsible for the development and support of the Curriculum for Excellence, combining this expertise with advice on the use of ICT in education. LTS is also responsible for Glow, Scotland's own national intranet and a core element of support for the Curriculum for Excellence. For the benefit of teachers and learners alike, Scotland on Screen is a valuable and exciting resource that fully embraces the new curriculum and takes advantage of Glow in a concrete and meaningful way. The LTS Perspective LTS is involved in the project because it fully recognises that Scotland on Screen is a powerful resource that can offer pupils good potential for achieving both in the classroom and beyond, and in an engaging and enjoyable way.
The project is giving users access to lots of precious archive film footage around Scotland's past - LTS anticipates that reuse of this content by teachers for their own contexts can assist them with delivery of Curriculum for Excellence in a satisfying, meaningful and tangible way. As a topic of study, although the subject of history is self-evident in this project, it cannot be over emphasised that the resource can be used for teaching in different areas of the curriculum. LTS therefore believes that the Scotland on Screen project is delivering content that is relevant for today's curriculum. As each clip is also accompanied by suggested activities and questions, it is expected that the resource will offer good opportunities for learners to develop and achieve in challenging ways. Glow will also give teachers across Scotland the chance to come together and share information, knowledge and opinions on Scotland on Screen as well as Moving Image Education and Media Literacy. |
