  • How are the exercises the women are doing different to a modern aerobics class? (think about music, types of exercise, clothes)
  • How are the children dressed?
  • Which fictional childrens films do you know of that depict Edwardian society?
  • What world event brought an end to this era?
  • What impression does the film give about the composition of society and social values at the time?

Activities

Research the history of Sir Robert Baden Powell and the scouting movement, its aims and its importance to British social life in the 20th Century. Write a letter from one of the participating scouts about his excitement at meeting the Chief Scout of the World.

Try to take photographs or digital video from exactly the same places depicted in the film and write or make a documentary incorporating both sets of footage to show how Hawick has changed over the last century.
