Description
This film looks at traditional and popular sports in Scotland. It is one of a group of seven documentaries made for the 1938 Empire Exhibition, under the supervision of John Grierson, including Scotland for Fitness, Face of Scotland, the Wealth of a Nation, the Children's Story, They Made the Land. In this clip we see shots of various sports such as football, bowling, golf, yachting as well as highland games. The games champion, Alistair Stewart, explains the technique of throwing the hammer and Willie Shaw, another games champion, prepares a tree trunk for tossing the caber.
