Description

This television documentary looks at two Scots families who have emigrated to Australia recording differing views and experiences of emigration.
This clips includes the opening sequence with views of the Sydney Opera House with the music 'Waltzing Matilda' and then cuts to Scottish views of a statue of Robert Burns with the music 'Scotland the Brave'. Scottish immigrants in Australia discuss reasons for leaving Scotland; shots of a Quantas aeroplane landing at Sydney airport with passengers disembarking. Thomas Rutherford, a Church Immigration Officer explains his job. Immigrant workers working with sheet metal. We see new immigrants at the hostels/camps and they talk about the difficulties and hardships experienced living in the camp and the distance required to travel into Sydney for work.
